Marking Gig Harbor’s Downtown Southern Entrance
One Harbor Point’s location at the southern end of Gig Harbor’s downtown district provides for an opportunity to create a green space marking the downtown’s entrance. This mirrors the green space at the opposite end of town, Eddon Boat Park, and serves as an anchor for the parks stretching along the downtown waterfront.
One Harbor Point’s design concepts propose a Heritage Park to be built at the neighborhood’s northern tip—the corner of Soundview and Harborview. The concepts include the dedication of a set of steps to connect pedestrian pathways to the water and to also serve as a to rest, and experience exceptional views of the harbor. The balance of active green space may ultimately include a statue, town clock, or feature of the community’s choosing. One Harbor Point intends to donate this part of the property to the City of Gig Harbor with a shared contribution to the development of park amenities.
One Harbor Point is designed to celebrate pedestrian access to downtown with the creation of a viewing platform, referred to as Fisherman’s Roost. This is proposed as a place to rest, take in the views, and anticipate arrival into the downtown.
A third proposed component to the Soundview Drive public pedestrian experience is the provision of a commemorative plaque at the One Harbor Point Tier 3 entrance. This strategically located marker provides an opportunity to honor the City’s history and heritage.
Plans for Harborview Drive, south of its intersection with Soundview, call for sidewalk, landscaping, curb and gutter, and enhanced lighting to transition from the adjacent residential area into the downtown core.
